Term 4, Week 2

Principal's Piece
Dear Parents and Carers
We are having another busy week, both in the classroom and in our wider community.
It is great to see the children working on our B.O.A.B.S thinking:
- Be respectful
- fOllow directions
- Act safely
- Be responsible
- Strong learners
While we don't always get everything right, it is good to see the children working on being more aware of what choices they need to make during the day.
On Tuesday morning, we were represented at the official opening of the Kununurra Water Playground. Both the Minister for Sport and Recreation, the Hon David Templeman, and our local member, Ms Divina D'Anna, were on hand for the opening. Our children represented themselves and our school well and enjoyed the chance to spend some time using the facilities.
On Tuesday morning a small group of Mini Vinnies provided assistance at the Telethon 4 Kids event at the Ewin Centre. Again, it is great to see our students providing support and participating in various community events.
Years 3-6 have worked with the team from Parks & Wildlife to learn some more about the behaviours of animals during the wet season and how to ensure that we keep ourselves safe.
Staff are also continuing to work on their own learning; with Sophie Keefe from CEWA Broome, we spent time last week discovering how to incorporate technology into regular class activities. She worked with classes to complete activities that make us great users of technology.
Preparations are also underway for our end of year events; more information will be forwarded to you in the coming days.
Thank you to all the families who have paid off their school fees or who have organised a payment plan. If you are yet to do so, please come and talk to us in the front office. If you are experiencing financial hardship and unable to pay your school fees, please come and speak directly with me.
Unfortunately, due to the rising costs of food and fuel, we had have to increase slightly the cost of some of our Canteen items. Please see below for our new Canteen menu.
We are celebrating Mass at school on All Saints Day, November 1st, at 8:30am in the Library. Parents and family are welcome to join us for this celebration.
All Souls Day, November 2nd, will be remembered with a Mass at 5:00pm at the Cemetery with Fr Joel.
Go well this week.
Miss Therese
Principal
Season of Creation Prayer
Loving God
You created us to live with the birds of the air, animals of the land and sea, trees, flowers, plants and our brothers and sisters around the world.
Open our minds, touch our hearts and guide us in ways of care and concern for all you have gifted us.
We ask this in your name
Amen

P&F Meeting
This Thursday, 20th October, the P&F are meeting at St Joseph's School to select key members for 2023 and commence planning for events next year. The P&F is a committed team of parents who want to support St Joseph's with the exciting events that happen throughout the school year. The team is looking for more people to join us. Please come along to our meeting this Thursday at 4pm and be part of our fantastic team.

Kununurra Water Playground
We were very excited this week when a number of our students attended the official opening of the Kununurra Water Playground. Over Week 1 of Term 4, teachers and leadership kept a close eye out for those students who consistently followed our school BOABS in order to be selected. The students were extremely well behaved, upholding our school values while having a fun time in the water. A big thank you to the Shire of Wyndham/East Kimberley for organising the event and inviting St Joseph's students to participate.

Never See a Need Without Doing Something About it...
This week, Neighbourhood House held a morning tea fundraiser for Telethon. It was both exciting and a privilege to have a number of our Year 5/6 students assist with this event. A big thank you to Shelley Cooper and Sister Julianne for helping with the organisation and to our students attending. Mary MacKillop said, "Never see a need without doing something about it." Here at St Joseph's, we want all our staff and students to help out those less fortunate than ourselves. Being involved in these events is just one way we can do just that.

The Naplan results for 2022 have arrived at St Joseph's school and are ready for collection from the front office. Please take the time to have a look at all the information provided to better understand your child's results. As always if you have any queries, please contact the school and speak to Shaun Joseph.

Swimming Program Cancellation
Unfortunately we have had to cancel the Term 4 swimming program, as we are not able to staff it in a way that is safe for the students and staff. Additionally, due to unforeseen staffing changes in Term 4, this decision has been made to minimise disruption across the entire school. We apologise for these changes. We have put plans in place for the program to recommence in Term 1 of 2023.
New School Bus Owners
As of 30th August 2022 the new School Bus Contractors are Dylon and Chelsea Lodge.

MacqLit
We are very excited that Miss Lena has joined our MacqLit team, so we can continue the amazing literacy program for our students who require the most support. We pleased that one whole group has now finished and re-entered the regular classroom curriculum. We are proud of our students, who have worked hard on improving their reading skills over the year, and look forward to everyone moving to the next level by the end of Term 4.
If you would like to talk about how your child is progressing in MacqLit, please contact the school and speak to Shaun Joseph.
