Term 4, Week 1

October 13, 2022

Principal's Piece

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to the final term of our school year. I trust that it will be both a happy and successful one for all of us! It is fabulous to see the children looking bright and excited as school gets underway.

Thank you to for the warm welcome that I have received since arriving in town, it is much appreciated. I look forward to meeting you in the coming weeks.

This week has been exciting (and a little nerve racking) as I meet new people, and learn new names and family connections. Learning the local customs might take a little longer, but already the children have been sharing with me the many things that make this part of our country unique.

I look forward to meeting more of you, and I trust that I can be a support to families and staff at St Joseph’s over the coming year. Please stop and say hello as you come and go from school with your families.

The children have been sharing stories with me about the various different things that they did during the holidays and it sounds like everyone managed to squeeze in lots of different activities while relaxing over the break.

Staff have been busy preparing for various different activities and events for the remainder of this year; we will let you know more about these as the term progresses.

There have been some changes to our staff this term. We welcome Dominique Wood and Natalie Evans to our team; they will share the Specialist Teacher role. Welcome back to Di Brooks who has returned from leave.

It was disappointing that several children, who are not members of our school community, came into the school grounds yesterday and took some bikes from the racks. Fortunately the bikes were found after school. We are aware of who was involved and that has been followed up. We are looking at some options to make the bikes more secure during the day. We encourage the children to use bike locks when possible.

A reminder that if you have a child who is eligible to start Kindy in 2023 (ie they were born between 1 July 2018 - 30 June 2019), please pick up enrolment forms from our office or download them from our website and return them as soon as possible.

I hope that this term will be a successful one for your children and I look forward to getting to know this community.

Enjoy your week.

Principal

Season of Creation Prayer

Loving God

You created us to live with the birds of the air, animals of the land and sea, trees, flowers, plants and our brothers and sisters around the world.

Open our minds, touch our hearts and guide us in ways of care and concern for all you have gifted us.

We ask this in your name

Amen

P&F Meeting

The P&F are a dedicated group of parents from our St Joseph's community who are keen for more members to join the team. If you love what's happening here at the school and have been looking for a way to become more involved, please come to the next meeting in Week 2 of Term 4 on Thursday, the 20th of October. The meeting will kick off at 4pm to give everyone a chance to be able to attend. We look forward to seeing some new faces come along and join our team. The P&F will be looking to select some key members in our next meeting as we head into 2023.

The Naplan results for 2022 have arrived at St Joseph's school and are ready for collection from the front office Please take the time to have a look at all the information provided to better understand your child's results.  As always if you have any queries, please contact the school and speak to Shaun Joseph.

Swimming Program Cancellation

Unfortunately we have had to cancel the Term 4 swimming program, as we are not able to staff it in a way that is safe for the students and staff.  Additionally, due to unforeseen staffing changes in Term 4, this decision has been made to minimise disruption across the entire school.  We apologise for these changes. We have put plans in place for the program to recommence in Term 1 of 2023.

Water Park Opening

In Term 4 of 2022 there will be an official ministerial opening of the new waterpark here in Kununurra.   As part of this exciting event, twenty St Joseph’s students have been asked to participate in the opening proceedings. St Joseph’s School is very excited to be part of the opening and will take some time and care in selecting students to attend.  Over Week 1 of Term 4 the teachers and leadership will be looking to see who is consistently following our school BOABS in order to be selected to attend this exciting event. Given the nature of the excursion, we will be sending students from Years 3 to 6 to represent the school.  This is very exciting and we are looking forward to having our students attend the grand opening.
