Dear Parents and Carers

We have continued to work at a busy pace this week. The children have been sharing their classwork and it is terrific to see and hear about the learning happening in classrooms.

It is encouraging that the children are getting plenty of rest at the end of the day, as this ensures they remain alert and focussed in the classroom.

As we move towards 2023, now is the time to send in enrolment forms if you have a little one who will be starting in Kindy next year. If you need forms, please call into the office. Or, if you already have a child at school, we can send the forms home with them.

Next Tuesday we will celebrate Mass for All Saints Day. This is an opportunity to pause and recognise the many saints, such as St Mary Mackillop of the Cross, St Joseph or St Patrick. Each of these people worked for the benefit of others and there are many things that we can learn from them and the work that they did.

You may be aware that the Covid regulations for Term 4 have been updated following recent changes to regulations at federal and state levels.

Please be aware that if some one in your family tests positive,

  • they should isolate for 5 days
  • close contacts should test daily for 5 days - and should only attend school if a negative result is recorded
  • positive results should be recorded on the WA Health site and the CEWA self-reporting portal
  • wear a mask and avoid large gatherings

Over the past week, a number of parents collecting their children on Ironwood Drive after school have stopped in the middle of the road crossing for their children to climb into the car. This is not a safe place to stop and call your children to your car. Parents are asked to park in the spaces available on the roadside and then children may walk to your family car.

The P & F held a very productive meeting last week. The following positions have been filled:

Chairperson: Bianca Brown

Deputy Chairperson: Mary McPhee

Secretary: Clare Smith

Treasurer: Kristy Hutchinson

Thank you to Bianca, Mary, Clare and Kristy for stepping into these roles and making such a huge contribution to our school.

The committee is already working on their first "big" event for 2023 - the St Patrick's Quiz Night, Saturday 18th March (TBC).

So, it's time to start training...It seems that the local knowledge questions are always the most challenging! Some sample questions will be included in the newsletter over the coming weeks, starting with one that tests how well you know the road signs around town:

"Name the seven destinations listed on the green and brown road signs on Victoria Hwy where it meets Messmate Drive ..."

We are celebrating Mass at school on All Saints Day, November 1st, at 8:30am in the Library. Parents and family are welcome to join us for this celebration.

All Souls Day, November 2nd, will be remembered with a Mass at 5:00pm at the Cemetery with Fr Joel.

Go well this week.

All Saints Day Prayer

We give you thanks, O God, for all the saints who ever worshiped you

Whether in brush arbors or cathedrals,

Weathered wooden churches or crumbling cement meeting houses

Where your name was lifted and adored.

We give you thanks, O God, for hands lifted in praise:

Manicured hands and hands stained with grease or soil,

Strong hands and those gnarled with age

Holy hands

Used as wave offerings across the land.

We thank you, God, for hardworking saints;

Whether hard-hatted or steel-booted,

Head ragged or aproned,

Blue-collared or three-piece-suited

They left their mark on the earth for you, for us, for our children to come.

Thank you, God, for the tremendous sacrifices made by those who have gone before us.

Bless the memories of your saints, God.

May we learn how to walk wisely from their examples of faith, dedication, worship, and love.

Amen

4pm in the Library

Please come along and help us start planning our fundraising activities for 2023.

Drama

This term the children have been memorising small sections of scripts for drama. Once these scripts have been learnt the students will move onto how to dramatise in a performance. The children have been engaging with this process with lots of excitement and are looking forward to being able to conduct a full drama during class time.

Year 4/5 News

Year 4/5 recently had a visit from the ICT expert, Miss Sophie. She instructed the us on how to make models of each student, using Minecraft. The results were amazing and some were mirror images of the students (almost!). Minecraft is such a popular game that is safe and educational for children (and adults). It is used in almost every country in the world and many schools are using Minecraft for teaching and learning. It is quite successful and children love it! you can learn everything from reading and maths to chemistry.

Coin Line and Water Play

We are assembling a coin line at school this term to raise funds for Mini Vinnies that will go towards helping those in need.

Children are encouraged to collect coins, so check underneath Grandma’s sofa, cash some cans or do some chores for cash.

On a chosen day in Week 5, classes will line up their coins in the morning. Then in the afternoon, the fire truck will arrive on our school oval, and for every metre of coins, the Class will get 5 minutes of play under the water hose!

Children may choose to bring bathers, or old clothes to change into, but there will be a half-hour for them to change or dry off before going home. They are also encouraged to bring a towel. Please let your child’s teacher know if you do not wish them to participate and get wet.

We are currently confirming the date with the fire brigade for week 5…. and of course, it may be postponed if they get a call out!
