Dear Parents and Carers

During recent weeks we have been working on a variety of topics in class. Several classes have been on excursions to the Community Garden, where the children have enjoyed learning about local plants and how they can be used for food, medicine and tools. Thank you to everyone involved in making these experiences available to the children.

On Friday morning the children and staff will commemorate Remembrance Day at 11am.  After World War II, Armistice Day was renamed Remembrance Day in memory of  those who were killed in both World Wars. Today the loss of Australian lives from all wars and conflicts is commemorated on this day.

As the term moves along, we have been looking at cooler options for play during recess and lunch, and have made the library available as an alternative space during these times.

Staff have been working on reports in recent days. These will emailed to you in a few weeks' time.

As you might be aware our School Advisory Council has not had the opportunity to meet in recent times. A separate note will be coming home shortly to begin work on getting the Council up and running again. The Council is consists of representatives from the parent body, the parish and school staff.

Congratulations and thank you to the Mini Vinnies team for your terrific results with Tuesday's Coin Line fundraiser. It was a terrific success - well done everyone and thank you to the Volunteer Fire Brigade for supporting us with the water play.

For the rest of this week I will be participating in Principal's meetings in Broome, which has several different focus areas including planning for 2023, Occupational Health and Safety and working with the team from our Broome Regional Office. Next week I will attend further meetings in Perth to continue the preparation process for 2023.

The next in our series of teasers for the 2023 St Patrick's Quiz night is  about the sport of sailing:

"What year did Australia first win the America's Cup?

What was the team's theme song? Who sang it?"

The answer to last weeks' question, "What organisation would I find at 89 Coolibah Drive Kununurra?" is "Australia Post".

Go well this week.

Miss Therese

Principal

Healing Prayer

Jesus, you healed the man born blind,

you made the lepers well again and you fed the hungry crowd.
You showed you cared for people, Jesus, through what you did for others.
Please be with all the people who care for those who are sick

or without homes or who are hungry at this time.
Give them all courage and strength.
Help them to know and feel that they are not alone.

I pray especially that you will help all the doctors and nurses with strength,

and scientists with inspiration and knowledge.
I pray for all the people who are helping out in any way.

You know what it was like to do your best for others
and to stand up and care for those who could not care for themselves.
Be with us all.

Help me to see that the kindness I show in my home
is a share in the kindness and love you have for each person.

I pray that all people will show love and kindness to others today and always.

Amen.

Next P&F Meeting

10 November

4pm in the Library

Please come along and help us start planning our fundraising activities for 2023.

Coin Line and Water Play

Thank you for all the support for our coin line yesterday.

Mini Vinnies supports our school families and those in our community who need assistance with food, clothes etc.. We raised over $550 with our combined total of 71 metres of coin.

Congratulations Year 1 with the biggest line of 25m!

A huge shout out and thanks to the Kununurra Volunteer fire service. Your support was greatly appreciated.

Sr Julianne and The Mini Vinnies Committee

No more soft plastics for recycling please...

Unfortunately, we cannot take anymore soft plastics for our recycling bin as the only company in Australia that processes it - REDcycle - has ceased accepting it for the time being. They are hoping to be up and running again in 2023.

In the meantime you could:

  • Store your soft plastics until REDcycle resumes collection again or another company takes on the role.
  • Choose to buy fewer products in plastic bags.

See ABC News for more details: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-11-09/redcycle-soft-plastics-recycling-program-suspended/101632220
