Dear Families and Friends
Welcome to Week 8. A big thank you to the members of the St Joseph’s community who assisted in positioning rocks at our school last weekend, creating a new outdoor classroom, friendship garden and storytelling area. Many thanks to the P&F Committee who generously paid for these new additions to our school.
The anticipation is building ahead of next week’s Christmas concert. We look forward to seeing families at the Leisure Centre from 5:00pm on Wednesday 9th December, ready for a 5:30pm start. Some final reminders:
• EFTPOS is available for the purchase of food and drinks. Otherwise, please bring smaller notes and coins.
• Our school bus will be operating from 4:30pm - 5:00pm.
• All students must be accompanied by an adult.
• BYO food and drinks (strictly no alcohol), picnic blanket and chairs.
In addition to this, all attendees over the age of 16 will be required to sign in before entering the Leisure Centre. To speed up this process and ensure we start the concert on time, please download the ‘SafeWA’ app and register your details. You can then use the app by scanning the code at the Leisure Centre. Hand sanitiser will be available and we remind everyone of the 1.5 metre social distancing requirements.
We look forward to what promises to be a great night!
Correspondence
Yesterday, correspondence was emailed to families regarding Bishop Christopher Saunders leaving the Diocese of Broome for six months sabbatical leave. The ‘Holy See’, which was mentioned in the letter, refers to the jurisdiction or office of the pope. Please don’t hesitate to see me if any further clarification is required.
Recycling Station
Our recycling station has been relocated to the front of the school. Please support our school and do your bit for the environment by placing your recyclable containers in the appropriate bag.
This Week
On Thursday 3rd December, the Year 6 students will have breakfast at East Kimberley College before participating in a variety of activities. Parents and carers are also invited to attend.

Students in Years 2-6 will enjoy a fun, final session of swimming at the Leisure Centre on Monday 7th December from 10:30am-12:30pm. Students in Kindergarten-Year 1 will have an afternoon of wet play on Tuesday 8th December.
Our Christmas concert will be held at the Leisure Centre on Wednesday 9th December with doors opening at 5:00pm.
Next Thursday 10th December, our end of year Awards Ceremony will take place in the library at 1:10pm. Families and friends are most welcome.
Our Graduation Mass will take place on Friday 11th December in the library at 8:30am. We look forward to seeing many families and friends in attendance as we farewell the Year 6 students.
Reports
Reports have been finalised and will be sent home next week. Kindy students will be given a general comment regarding their achievement over the semester. Students from Pre-Primary - Year 6 will receive a formal report focusing on individual social and academic achievement for Semester 2. I commend the teachers for their efforts to ensure detailed and accurate reports have been written for all children.
Mini Vinnies
Our Mini Vinnies students are collecting donations of long life food items and toiletries for hampers for members of our community. If all families could purchase one or more of the following items during their next grocery shop we would be most grateful: Long life milk, cereal, tea, coffee, milo, biscuits, canned food, toiletries. Thank you to the many families who have recently donated items.
Enjoy the rest of your week.

It has been a busy time in Year 4/5 this term. To coincide with Pope Francis’ message ‘Hear the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor’ we teamed up with Year 2 to put this message into action. Students did a fantastic job collecting cans and bottles from around home and the community and cashed them in at the collection depot to collect $50. With this money we bought water, fruit and biscuits and handed them out to residents who frequent White Gum Park.
Students were asked ‘What has been the highlight of your time at St. Joseph’s this year?’ Here are some responses:
“Swimming at camp in the infinity pool at Lake Argyle” Louis T
“Learning Miriwoong because I like learning the language, learning spelling because Mr. A teaches me new words and maths because I love playing warm-up bingo” Adriana T
“Learning about the spiders at Lake Argyle. Their web is 30x stronger than a police bullet proof vest” Carmelo
“Helping Miss Deb with Mini Vinnies and starting to get presents ready to deliver to people in the community” Lacey P
“The Archer Fish spitting water at me on camp” Kailyn T
“Going really fast on the boat at camp” Judd S
“Camping in the library for camp and having pancakes for breakfast” Tylen J
“Doing the ‘My Island Home’ assembly and Christmas songs” Gordon R
“The Year 5/6 camp where I got to go camping. I loved the cruise and eating tasty burgers” Jonas P
“Going on the boat cruise and having pancakes for breakfast on camp” Cody L
Have a safe Christmas and New Year,
Mr. A and Miss Deb
Year 2 News
What a busy and eventful year 2020 has been for all. Even though the school year looked a lot different, there has still been a great amount of growth academically, socially and emotionally. The many values that have been displayed this year have come to the fore as we end the term:
Þ Resilience when tackling a particularly tricky problem whether it is in class or a problem between friends;
Þ Courage in coping with changes;
Þ Love and honesty towards all members of the school community;
Þ Appreciation and happiness for each other and all the opportunities they are given within the school.
A huge thank you to Mr Jamie, Miss Judith and Miss Sandra for the influence they have had on each child’s growth. I look forward to strengthening these relationships even more next year with the same group of students. They, like everyone deserve a well-earned break!
